"When we overflew the planes of Lake Tahoe, in a seemingly never-ending night, we agreed that the end of landscape could look like a flat, black mirror-like structure.
What would I give to see the black mountains near Alpine Meadows rise up to the east for a last time. Trees bent by sunlight and wind."
Luxations is a sound composition based on travel reports that were made on a research journey through California, especially the city of Los Angeles, and Nevada in 2018. It is part of a cluster of works that engage our encounter with the incredible heat in the millennium summer of 2018. A proto-alt-right independent film industry, icons and ideologies of an old America and a civilization built on oil and industrial agriculture in sudden erosion emerge out of the memories and images we collected.
The sound pieces contain fictional writing, travelogues and field recordings. They are embedded in a sound field that emerges out of the Serge, a synthesizer developed by Serge Tcherepnin in the 1970s in California, mostly based on feedback.
Digital download comes with a 8p booklet, including a short story and analogue photography made in the deserts of California and Nevada 2018 by Pia Bergerbusch.
